Saint Mary Student Council is a group of student leaders who work with an adult advisor to collaborate with others to impact their school community. Student Council members must be a model for behavior of the other students in school. Students, typically one boy and one girl from each class, are elected to office in November.
Some of the roles of Student Council are:
To initiate, implement, and complete projects and activities which will be of help to the school, the students
To develop and provide opportunities for leadership and service in the local school
To develop student potential and encourage well-informed, honest, interested and active citizenship.
To increase student involvement and school pride.
In the past, Student Council members have acted as guides for Open Houses, hosted Mass for Grandparents’ Day, developed after school programs such as Lego Club and Chess Club, collected for and purchased a Buddy Bench for our outdoor space, led collection drives for service members, delivered cards to nursing homes and senior facilities, and instituted parent and child activities such as our Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
The members of the Student Council meet once a month along with the Faculty Advisor to discuss growing ideas, issues or class requests. Meetings are held at 11:15 a.m. in the large meeting room on the second floor on the following dates.
