Grade Five Spanish
2020-21
Sra. Corazzini
¡Bienvenidos¡ Welcome to Fifth Grade Spanish!
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child. We meet twice a week, to continue our Spanish language and culture enrichment journey. This year we will explore how the language evolved, where it is spoken around the globe as well as its many similarities to the English language. Auditory and visual input will incorporate as many cognates as possible as a means of building upon what the children already know in English. The overall goal is to create a safe environment which allows for maximum participation from the students. Where they are feel comfortable to embrace and experiment with a new language.
The format of the class varies and will include songs, videos, short stories and games as well as many kinesthetic activities to enhance understanding and increase retention.
To compliment what we are doing in the classroom, your child will also have an account for Duolingo and Señor Wooly which will allow for additional opportunities to gain input outside of the classroom. The ideal would be to receive some form of visual and/or auditory input throughout the week.
Prayer is a simple way to incorporate a little Spanish language into daily life, as well as talking about the weather, the date and the time. As the year progresses, your child will be building an Interactive Student Notebook (ISNB) which will include this information and will be an excellent reference tool to assist them on along the way. Your child also has a textbook, McDougall Littell, ¡En Español!, Level 1, which we will use to explore the topics of family and school.
Grading/Assessment
Your child will receive comments on the report card which will reflect how well they are progressing with the concepts introduced, understanding of vocabulary as well as homework. There are no formal tests or quizzes; rather formative assessments including class participation, class work and homework are utilized to assess progress. Students are encouraged to seek out clarification as needed. Please note that work which is poorly done or incomplete will be returned to be redone and resubmitted.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
